If your Volkswagen’s TCU has stored a P0841 fault code and cannot engage gears, the fault is often traced back to an internal failure within the DQ200/DSG7 mechatronic unit. This is a well-known failure that affects a wide range of VW vehicles from 2008 onwards. The good news is that we remanufacture these mechatronic units to restore full functionality in just 2-3 working days with a lifetime warranty included.
SHOP NOW - P0841 VW DSG7/DQ200 Solution
First introduced in 2008, the DQ200 DSG was designed to improve fuel efficiency, using a dry-clutch and a compact design to reduce weight compared with its higher-torque, wet-clutch counterpart, the 6-speed DQ250. Despite these advantages, the DSG7 is highly susceptible to internal mechatronic faults that can affect hydraulic pressure regulation. Among the most commonly affected vehicles are MK6 and MK7 VW Golfs in 1.0L-1.6L variants (2008-2019), where mechatronic failure frequently triggers P0841. Other VW models affected include the MK5 Polo (2009-2018) and first-generation Touran (2010-2019). Fortunately, we test and rebuild the DSG7 mechatronic unit for all VW models affected by P0841- simply complete our test form to get started.
Volkswagen P0841 DSG7 fault explained
If your Volkswagen’s TCU has stored P0841 (also known in VAG diagnostics as 17225), this indicates that the transmission fluid pressure sensor is reporting an implausible signal. In other words, it is seeing a reading that does not match the hydraulic response expected from the commanded pump operation.
Under normal operation, the mechatronic unit generates hydraulic pressure using an internal pump and then regulates that pressure to control clutch engagement and gear selection. When an internal mechatronic fault develops, it can prevent the unit from regulating hydraulic pressure correctly. As the TCU commands the pump to operate, it expects a corresponding increase in pressure sensor feedback. If the measured pressure signal does not match the TCU’s expected reading, your VW’s transmission control unit stores:
As the TCU relies on accurate pressure data to manage clutch engagement and gear changes, an implausible signal can significantly hinder gearbox operation. If the TCU detects a problem with hydraulic pressure build-up, it may restrict pump operation to help prevent damage to the pump. To the driver, this results in symptoms such as limp mode or gearbox emergency mode, a gearbox warning light, or a complete loss of drive.
Other possible causes of P0841, such as damaged wiring between the TCU and pressure sensor, corroded or loose connector pins, or low/contaminated transmission fluid, should also be ruled out. However, in VW DSG7/DQ200 units, P0841 is commonly stored alongside related fault codes such as P189C and P17BF. When one or all are present, this is a strong indicator of an internal fault within the mechatronic unit.
How to resolve the P0841 VW DSG7 fault
Once the DQ200/DSG7 mechatronic unit has been diagnosed as the cause of the P0841 fault code, many affected owners choose to replace it with a brand-new unit. While this may seem a relatively straightforward solution, it costs significant time and money later down the line. This is because replacement units contain the same internal components that originally failed, leaving you vulnerable to the very same failure reoccurring in the future. Thankfully, we’ve developed a remanufacturing solution for the DSG7 mechatronic unit that addresses the root cause of failure and reliably resolves the P0841 code.

Our solution
We propose a comprehensive rebuild of your DQ200 mechatronic unit. We’ll analyse your mechatronic using hardware-in-the-loop testing rigs which simulate realistic operating conditions and loads. This enables us to pinpoint the root cause of the P0841 code accurately every time. Our experienced technicians will then remanufacture your unit using higher-than-OEM-standard components, restoring full functionality to your VW’s DQ200 and ensuring the P0841 fault is resolved.
Our rebuild service is significantly more cost-effective than sourcing a brand-new replacement. Your unit will retain its original coding, meaning no recoding will be required when you receive it back. Resolve your VW’s P0841 the right way, have your DQ200/DSG7 mechatronic unit remanufactured in just 2-3 working days. Get started by filling out our short test form now.

How do I get my unit rebuilt?
To pay for the rebuild click the Shop Now link above, select your part number and click: Get yours rebuilt.
Print the payment/booking confirmation email.
Package the DSG mechatronic inside a sturdy box with plenty of packaging material and make sure you include your confirmation email in the box.
Please ensure that the sump remains fitted to the unit as this houses the accumulator, which is a pressurised component, and can become dangerous to anyone handling the package if exposed.
Send us your package by tracked courier (the shipping instructions are on the confirmation email).
Once received we will test, rebuild and return your VW’s DQ200 with an unlimited mileage lifetime warranty. If your unit turns out not to be faulty then we will refund your payment less a small testing fee and return shipping.
What if I don’t want to pay up front?
This is not a problem, if you prefer this option then follow these steps:
Fill in and submit this test form.
Print the booking confirmation email.
Package the unit inside a sturdy box with plenty of packaging material and make sure you include your confirmation email in the box.
