Signs your Audi’s ABS module needs to be repaired

As you might know, your Audi’s ABS module is the ECU mounted to the vehicle’s ABS control unit. It’s typically encased in a black plastic casing and it plays a crucial role in ABS deployment.

When your Audi’s ABS control module malfunctions, a common sign that it’s in need of a repair is when the ABS warning light illuminates. This indicates the module has detected something irregular within the anti-lock braking system which might compromise its ability to function safely.

As you can imagine, the anti-lock braking system is highly sophisticated and is made up of various electrical, hydraulic and mechanical parts. Therefore, an illuminated ABS warning light doesn’t solely indicate your Audi’s ABS module needs to be repaired, but that the system requires further investigation.

A key indicator that your Audi’s ABS unit is the component in need of repair is the presence of stored DTCs that relate to a control module fault or implausible signal – such as 16352 or 01130. In other cases of Audi ABS unit failure, you’ll find codes related to a brake booster fault stored in the defective control module - DTCs like C123EF0 and C11EC04 are strong indicators that a repair is necessary.

If you’re unable to access compatible diagnostic equipment to read the fault codes stored in your ABS module, you can send your unit to us for testing anyway. Thanks to our state-of-the-art testing rigs, we’ll analyse your unit under realistic operating conditions and let you know whether it’s the source of your problems. You can begin this process via our test form

Can an Audi ABS module be repaired?

Depending on the severity of the damage your control module has suffered, in most cases, a comprehensive rebuild can overcome the root cause of unit failure and restore lasting ABS functionality.

Our expert technicians are well-versed in the very latest remanufacturing techniques and equipment. We even use higher-than-OEM-standard components in our rebuilds to enhance the durability of your unit.

As part of our process, we’ll contact you directly once we’ve tested your control module to let you know whether a rebuild is viable or not.

Audi ABS module fault: repair or replace?

Having concluded that their ABS control module is defective and in need of repair, many Audi owners choose to replace their ABS unit with a brand-new one. However, as many of these modules fail due to an inherent design flaw or the inclusion of poor-quality internal components, replacement units often fail again in exactly the same way.

Instead, we’d always recommend having your control module remanufactured. A remanufacture or rebuild is a more comprehensive restoration of your unit than a standard repair. A remanufacture seeks to not only resolve the root cause of unit failure, but also to rectify any potentially problematic areas of inner circuitry to provide a long-lasting solution.

Audi ABS module repair cost

Not only is sourcing a brand-new Audi ABS module a short-sighted solution, it’s also much more expensive than having the unit repaired or remanufactured. Typically, an ABS unit from the dealer will set you back thousands of pounds, whereas a remanufacture costs a few hundred pounds and resolves the fault for good.

When we rebuild ABS modules, all programming information is restored. This means you won’t need to have the unit recoded to your specific vehicle at additional time and expense like you would for a brand-new unit.

Which Audi ABS modules do we rebuild?

We remanufacture ABS modules for most Audi models, and each of them come with an unlimited-mileage lifetime warranty and a 2-3 working days turnaround time.
