Jeep ABS Module Repair

Is your Jeep showing the ABS and traction control lights on the dashboard? This commonly occurs when the ABS unit develops a fault. Fortunately, we’ve got you covered. Unlike a standard repair, we offer a professional Jeep ABS module test and rebuild service to provide a reliable and long-term solution.

ABS pump and module assemblies fitted to the JK Jeep Wrangler (2007-2018), first-generation Compass (2006-2016), and Patriot (2006-2013) are the most commonly affected by faults. These vehicles are equipped with the ATE MK61, MK20, Bosch 8.0 and 9.0 ABS units. Fault symptoms are similar across all types, but the root causes and repair requirements differ, making professional testing of the Jeep ABS module essential. Browse our product catalogue to find your unit, or send it to us if it’s not listed by filling in this test form to have your unit professionally tested.

Signs that you need a Jeep ABS module repair
The most common sign that your Jeep has a faulty ABS module is the illumination of the ABS warning light along with the traction control light. These warnings may remain active even after the stored fault codes have been cleared. Although the vehicle may appear to operate normally under light braking, ABS intervention may be reduced or disabled during sudden or emergency braking.

Fault codes such as C2116 and C2200 are commonly stored by vehicles fitted with defective MK61 ABS units, which will also trigger the ABS warning light. These codes are often stored in the module as active faults and may reappear immediately after clearing. Similar symptoms can also occur in other ABS units, including the older ATE MK20 and newer Bosch 9.0 units.

What causes the ABS light on your Jeep?
The ABS module monitors various inputs from components such as the wheel speed sensors and pump motor, whilst carrying out internal self-checks to ensure the whole system is performing correctly. If faults develop within the control unit, fault codes are stored and the ABS is disabled, causing the ABS warning light to illuminate. Because the control module and hydraulic components are integrated, a failure in one area can affect the entire unit, preventing ABS intervention and triggering warning lights.

Over time, the ABS unit is continuously exposed to heat, vibration and repeated operation, causing internal components to wear. Design flaws and poor-quality components accelerate wear within the control unit, leading to permanent internal failure. External electrical problems such as wiring or sensor faults can also cause similar symptoms on your Jeep, but the issue often originates from within the ABS module itself and will require a professional repair.

Jeep ABS module repair or replacement?
When the ABS module develops an internal fault, you may be advised to replace the full ABS unit, as the module is not always supplied separately. This can be costly, and while it temporarily solves the braking or warning light issue, replacement units contain the same components that failed originally, leaving the unit vulnerable to future faults. Instead, we offer a long-term solution that is more reliable than standard replacement.
