Peugeot 208 ECU Fault Causing Misfires

Peugeot 208 ECU

If your Peugeot 208 is misfiring and not running quite right, you’re not alone. This issue is widespread and can be traced back to a defective engine ECU, especially in first generation models. You’ll inevitably have a lit engine warning light when this malfunction has manifested itself.

SHOP NOW – Peugeot 208 Engine ECU Rebuild

Unfortunately, these Peugeot 208 issues aren’t exclusive to just one type of engine ECU either; both the MEVD17.4.2 and MEV17.4.2 carry this malfunction. You’ll find these Bosch ECUs fitted to 1.4 and 1.6L petrol engines, although it’s important to note that they’re only fitted to the GTi and VTi spec of first-generation Peugeot 208s (95-120bhp).

Whilst these intricate control modules do a great job of managing some of Peugeot’s higher-spec petrol engines when fully functional, failure is becoming increasingly common. Over time, the internal components that make up the MEVD17.4.2 and MEV17.4.2 begin to degrade, and inevitably, misfire issues aren’t far behind.

Ultimately, these internal issues have taken away the engine ECU’s ability to deliver reliable signals to key components like the spark plugs. By causing incomplete or mistimed combustion, Peugeot 208 owners experience misfires, increased fuel consumption, and reduced performance – all because of a faulty MEVD17.4.2 or MEV17.4.2 ECU.

Our Peugeot 208 ECU Rebuild

When attempting to remedy these Peugeot 208 misfire issues, many choose to replace their faulty MEVD17.4.2 or MEV17.4.2 with a new one. However, this isn’t the most effective option as internal defects may still be present in many replacement modules.

Your best bet is to have your Peugeot 208 ECU professionally rebuilt. This way the fault is not only rectified but also prevented from returning. This is possible thanks to our advanced remanufacturing technology and the use of higher-than-standard internal components.

Not sure if your 208 has the MEVD17.4.2 or MEV17.4.2 ECU? We’ve broken this down below:

MEVD17.4.2 & MEV17.4.2

Common failure symptoms:

  • Engine misfiring
  • Engine management light on
  • Engine cutting out

MEVD17.4.2

MEVD17.4.2

The MEVD17.4.2 is fitted to some of Peugeot’s higher-spec 1.6L petrol engines. The only Peugeot 208s carrying this ECU are GTi spec vehicles. This unit is also commonplace in the RCZ, but only in 201 and 266bhp vehicles - not the 154bhp base model. The diesel RCZ uses a DCM3.5 ECU.

Pinouts

These two ECUs also look visually different. The MEVD17.4.2 has a slightly wider first plug, as shown below:

MEV17.4.2

MEV17.4.2

The MEV17.4.2 is fitted to first-generation 208 vehicles in the VTi spec, including both 1.4 and 1.6L petrol engines. These ECUs aren’t fitted to the RCZ, but they are often found in Peugeot 207s, 308s and 2008s (all in VTi spec and capable of at least 120bhp).

Pinouts

The pinout for the MEV17.4.2 is very similar, but with a noticeably narrower first plug. There's also a difference in 12V supply pin placement.
