The Visteon DCU-102 is fitted to 2.2L (HDi/Multijet) Peugeot Boxers, Fiat Ducatos and Citroen Relays made between 2007-2014, and failure frequently causes P0603 to store. It’s also common for affected vehicles to experience rough running, cutting out and non-start.
If you’re experiencing any of these issues and suspect your Peugeot Boxer’s ECU is the cause of P0603, send the control module to us for testing.
P0603 Peugeot Boxer fault explained
As mentioned, a faulty DCU-102 is a common cause of problems in Peugeot Boxer vehicles, while starting issues and engine lights can be caused by a variety of faults, one DTC in particular points towards the engine ECU:
KAM relates to ‘keep alive memory’. In normal operating conditions, when the ignition is switched off and the main ECU circuits shut down, a small part of the control module’s memory remains powered. This is KAM, and it’s used to store a variety of information, typically related to the individual operating characteristics of the vehicle.
However, when the DCU-102 develops an internal malfunction, this area of the control module is very often affected, causing KAM data to be lost or corrupted.
The next time the key is turned in the ignition barrel, the engine ECU is prompted to verify its own internal integrity upon start-up. One of the ECU’s self-tests relates to KAM, which of course fails due to the DCU-102’s internal defect. As a result of the failed KAM checksum, the ECU stores a P0603 DTC.
How to resolve the P0603 Peugeot Boxer fault
Having diagnosed their P0603 DTC as a consequence of a defective DCU-102, many Boxer, Ducato and Relay owners choose to purchase a brand-new one from Peugeot, Fiat or Citroen. However, this isn’t the most effective solution as it often leaves owners vulnerable to the very same issue.
What many don’t appreciate is that these engine ECUs are known to fail as a result of internal component degradation. Therefore, simply re-installing like-for-like components runs the risk that failure will reoccur and P0603 will return to your Peugeot Boxer before long.
Fortunately, we’ve developed a much longer-lasting solution: a comprehensive remanufacture of your DCU-102 ECU.
