BMW E87/E90 Windows Not Working - Footwell Module (FRM3) Repair

Lifetime warranty*, 2–3 days turnaround Get Yours Rebuilt
bmw frm3 footwell module repair

The FRM3 footwell module has become a recurring headache for various BMW models, leading to significant repair costs for owners. This important control module is responsible for various body aspects on the vehicle, which are inevitably lost when the unit fails. Thankfully, we’re the experts at remanufacturing these units in just 2-3 working days.

BMW E90 FRM3 Footwell Module Repair

You’ll find the FRM3 in a number of 2007-2015 BMW models, most typically the 1 Series (E87) and 3 Series (E90). When in need of repair, a defective footwell module will disrupt various electrical aspects on the BMW – often preventing power window and hazard light functionality.

You might already know that FRM stands for the Fußraummodul, meaning ‘footwell module’ in German. This is the control module found within the driver-side footwell and is separate to an engine-bay BCM or fuse box positioned behind the glovebox.

How do I know my BMW’s FRM3 needs to be repaired?
As we mentioned, the most common sign of a faulty FRM3 is a loss of power windows and/or no indicator lights. However, when in need of an FRM3 repair, it’s important to understand what is, and what isn’t, a sign of a defective BMW footwell module.

When your FRM3 has failed, you might find the vehicle’s headlights are stuck on or simply won’t turn off. When these control modules fail, they restrict the ability to toggle between headlight settings, including being able to activate full beam. It’s likely other areas of exterior lighting will be affected too, like experiencing a loss of tail lights or side lights.

However, it’s important to understand that the FRM3 has no responsibility for windscreen wipers or central locking and these are not signs your BMW footwell module needs to be repaired.

BMW E87/E90 footwell module: repair or replace?
Once BMW owners have attributed their power windows not working to a faulty FRM3, they’re typically recommended to replace it with a brand-new unit. However, this isn’t the most effective solution.

You’ve got to understand that these control modules are caused to fail due to an internal defect which causes them to fail earlier in their lifetime than they should. By going out and sourcing a replacement FRM3, you’ll just be reinstalling the same weak point to your vehicle. A replacement will cost you more time and money, and it leaves you vulnerable to the same malfunction in the near future.

Our BMW footwell module service
Instead, we propose having your FRM3 comprehensively remanufactured. This way functionality will be restored for good, and for much less than the cost of a replacement unit.

Better still, our process takes just 2-3 working days and you won’t need to recode the rebuilt unit back to the vehicle. As always, we provide an unlimited-mile lifetime warranty with these units – much longer than most other BMW footwell module repairs.

Hi am I right in thinking that on my footwell module my low pressure fuel pumps relay is soldered on the back. My vehicle is a Mini Cooper s.
ECU Admin says: 21/04/2020 12:33:11
Hi Dave, this footwell FRM3 module is responsible for controlling ‘body’ aspects on the vehicle (windows, internal and external lights etc). However it does not contain a fuel pump relay, this would be external to this module.
