Do you have a BMW 5 Series that’s pulling to one side under braking? If it’s an F10 BMW 5 Series model, it’s likely the ABS pump and module unit has failed. Thankfully, we remanufacture these control units in just 2-3 working days and we’ll cover you with an unlimited-mileage lifetime warranty.
Shop Now – BMW 5 Series (F10) ABS Module Repair
The commonly failing control unit in question is the Bosch 9.0 (BMW) ABS pump and module, which is fitted to BMW 5 Series F10 models manufactured between 2012-2017. This includes all standard model variants from 518 through to 550, but not M5 models. You’ll find E60 and E61 M5 models are fitted with an ATE MK61 ABS unit.
When the Bosch 9.0 (BMW) fails in 5 Series vehicles, it can cause the brakes to deploy unevenly, creating a braking imbalance. When this occurs, you should send the ABS unit to us for comprehensive testing.
We’ve been remanufacturing ABS units like the Bosch 9.0 (BMW) since 2005. Our defect rate is as low as 0.49% and we’re ISO 9001 (quality management) certified, so you can be sure your unit will be in safe hands. Begin the process today by filling out our quick-and-easy test form.
BMW 5 Series (F10) ABS module fault explained
When the Bosch ABS pump and module unit controlling your F10 BMW 5 Series’ anti-lock braking system fails, it can cause serious problems for owners.
As you might know already, these control units are made up of an ABS pump, module, and hydraulic block. Each element of the ABS unit works harmoniously to be able to identify and counteract a locking wheel under heavy braking. The system is able to do this thanks to a combination of sophisticated electronic detection and reactive hydraulic braking pressure regulation.
Unfortunately, when the ABS pump and module in your F10 5 Series fails, this process can be significantly disrupted. When an internal fault materialises, your BMW’s ABS unit no longer builds and releases braking pressure at each individual wheel as it should do. Often, the internal ABS fault only becomes apparent when the vehicle feels as though it’s pulling to one side under braking.
What’s actually happening in these cases is that the defective ABS pump and module unit is failing to deliver an evenly balanced amount of hydraulic pressure to one or more callipers.
Of course, if the brakes on one side of the vehicle apply more force than those on the other side, the vehicle’s natural path will no longer follow a straight line. When braking effort is imbalanced, the vehicle will tend to pull to the side with the greater braking force. For example, if there’s a lack of braking effort on the offside (driver-side) brakes, then the vehicle will pull to the nearside (passenger-side) and vice versa.
Before condemning your BMW 5 Series’ (F10) ABS unit as defective, it’s worth ruling out issues external to the pump and module unit. For example, ensure the vehicle has sufficient brake fluid and that the brake lines are free of any leaks. Likewise, a seized brake calliper can cause similar braking imbalance problems.
BMW F10 ABS pump & module problems: repair or replace?
When met with the aforementioned braking problems, many affected F10 5 Series owners opt to purchase a brand-new replacement ABS pump and module from BMW. However, this is often ineffective in resolving the issue long-term.
The reason many of these ABS units suffer internal failure is actually due to a design flaw. Therefore, if you swap your defective unit with a like-for-like replacement, you may well be reinstalling the very same design flaw. This could then lead to the same symptoms re-emerging in the near future.
Worse still, brand-new units tend to cost thousands and you’ll need to have them recoded to your specific vehicle at additional time and expensive. Thankfully though, we’ve developed a much more effective solution.
Our solution
Rather than sourcing an expensive replacement unit, we propose having your original unit comprehensively tested and remanufactured.
We’ve developed our own hardware-in-the-loop testing rigs to be able to analyse these BMW 5 Series ABS modules under realistic operating conditions. This allows us to accurately identify the root cause of failure and any other areas of potential weakness in your BMW F10’s ABS module.
Unlike many standard repair services, we strengthen those areas of potential weakness as well as resolve the root cause of unit failure. We’ll even include components that exceed OEM standards where appropriate. We do this to help improve unit durability because we offer an unlimited-mileage lifetime warranty on all BMW 5 Series ABS pump and module rebuilds.
Our process takes just 2-3 working days and you won’t need to recode the ABS pump and module back to your BMW F10 afterwards. Get started today by adding your fault symptoms and vehicle details to this test form.
