The DQ500 mechatronic is a common failure point in VW models such as the 2.0 TSI/TDI Tiguan and Transporter fitted with the DQ500 DSG gearbox. This unit isn’t confined to Volkswagen, however, as the same DSG mechatronic is also fitted to Audi models, including the Q3 and A3.

What is the DQ500 DSG?

Released in late 2010, the DQ500 is a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT) designed by Volkswagen for high-torque vehicles, serving as a step-up from the DQ381 unit in its ability to handle up to 600 Nm of engine torque. However, like any DSG system, it uses a mechatronic control module to manage shift and clutch operations, which means a repair of the DQ500 mechatronic becomes a necessity when problems arise.

DQ500 mechatronic unit

The DQ500 mechatronic unit is the hydro-electric control assembly that regulates the wet-clutches and dictates gear selection inside the VW’s transmission. Similarly to the DQ381, which is prone to internal malfunction, the mechatronic unit within the DQ500 can develop internal faults over time that’ll require a professional repair to resolve.

Common DQ500 mechatronic problems

The DQ500’s mechatronic unit is prone to problems with internal component degradation, often resulting in rough or delayed gear shifts, fault codes P0607 and P175D, and a loss of odd (1, 3, 5) or even (2, 4, 6) gears in your 2.0 TSI/TDI VW Tiguan or Transporter fitted with the DQ500 DSG gearbox.

These codes and symptoms indicate a malfunction with the hydraulic and electronic functions of the DQ500 mechatronic unit, confirming an internal failure that cannot be resolved until the unit is professionally repaired.

Our mechatronic solution

Instead of replacing your unit with a new or used mechatronic, which is likely to contain the same internal weaknesses that caused the original fault, our bespoke service can restore functionality more effectively.
