Vauxhall Adam and Corsa E engine ECU failure - causing non-start

Vauxhall Corsa E engine ECU fault

This Vauxhall Adam and Corsa E engine ECU is a common failure that prevents the engine starting or cranking over. These AC Delco E78 engine ECUs all suffer from a common manufacturing defect that causes a loss of activation signal to the main relay, preventing engine system power up or the starter motor activation. Internal ECU malfunction also inhibits reference voltage outputs required for sensor activation. When diagnosing the non-start problem, you will often find that the engine system will fail to communicate with your diagnostic equipment while the engine fails to start/crank-over.

These problems are frequently intermittent to begin but become permanent if not resolved, causing complete and constant non-start.

Other problems encountered with this ECU, though less common than the non-start issue, include running symptoms such as loss of power, cutting out and limp mode activation. The engine management warning light will be illuminated and the message ‘Engine Power Is Reduced’ may appear on the dash.

This ECU is fitted into an array of Vauxhall models, across a variety of engines, including Adam, Astra J, Corsa D facelift models, Corsa E, Mokka and Zafira Tourer C. That’s a huge number of vehicles to suffer from non-starting failure.

Main dealerships may seek to resolve these issues by purchasing new from manufacturer. However, this will require coding to the vehicle (adding further costs) and will only come with a short one year guarantee.

As market leaders in remanufacture of vehicle electronics we have another, more cost effect solution – rebuild your original ECM/ECU.

We see a substantial amount of these ECU’s coming into us for repair due to malfunction of internal components. Our test and rebuild service is second to none. We can have your Vauxhall Adam/Corsa E engine ECU repaired and back to you, without the need for coding, for a fraction of the cost of a new ECU. Along with a Lifetime Warranty for your peace of mind, this is truly the best option.
