Peugeot 207 power steering complete failure

Peugeot 207 steering fault

Peugeot 207, manufacture years 2006 to 2013, commonly experience a total loss of power assisted steering. Failure of the EPS (Electric Power Steering) typically begins intermittently, but will quickly worsen into a permanent condition. With no assistance from the power steering motor the vehicle will feel extremely heavy to manoeuvre making tasks such as parking very difficult.

When the Peugeot 207 power steering motor and ECU fails the EPS warning light will be displayed on the dashboard cluster. Scanning the vehicle with diagnostic equipment will reveal fault codes. These include P0606 - Internal Fault, C1404 - Electric Power Steering Control Fault and C1414 - Power Steering Motor Internal Fault. The root cause of this failure is internal component breakdown of the power steering unit, meaning the problems will not go away until the fault is rectified.

When presented with stiff/heavy power steering and the illumination of the power steering symbol; you may want to resolve the issue by ordering a brand new part direct from manufacturer. This option is very expensive and the part will only come with a short one year warranty. The crucial issue with this is that the manufacturer has not yet worked out the fault at production level, meaning that those new parts will be predisposed to fail; usually outside the warranty period.

The Picasso models of the Citroen C3 and C4 are also affected by these problems, as they use the same power steering part as the Peugeot 207. That’s a vast amount of vehicles exposed to this innate failure; and demand for new parts is high.

Our solution is much more cost effective, a rebuild of your own power steering motor and due to our high standard of work we will provide an unlimited mile Lifetime Warranty*

Hi Team, My garage have said I have a faulty ecu module for the power steering. It means I have the permanent light on and no power steering. My car is Peugeot 207. Do I get my garage to send you the Ecu motor? Also how long does it take on average for them to refit it to the car. Many thanks
ECU Admin says: 28/04/2022 09:50:02
Hi, you'll need to speak with a qualified mechanic in your local area to get a removal/fitting quote, and then get your garage to send us your unit for test and rebuild.
