Which Hyundai models are affected by C2402? 
As mentioned, this DTC can be caused by the failure of three different ABS units, each of which are fitted to various Hyundai vehicles.

The first commonly-failing ABS control unit is fitted to the facelifted Hyundai Amica, but only vehicles manufactured between 2006-2008. This unit frequently fails due to degradation in the control module. This causes C2402 to store, which of course triggers the Hyundai’s ABS warning light.

The second frequently-failing unit is one of Mando’s early combined pump and module releases. These units are fitted to 2002-2009 vehicles such as the Coupe, Tucson, Matrix and Santa Fe. Again, these units frequently experience module-related issues. When failure strikes, the traction control light may illuminate alongside the ABS light, and a C1275 DTC might also store.

The third ABS unit vulnerable to C2402 faults is fitted to much more recently made Hyundai models. The Mobis MEB3-E unit is a frequent cause of headaches for owners of 2011-2018 models like the i20, i30 and ix20. Again, the unit’s C2402-causing defect is confined to the control module and it causes the ABS and traction control lights to illuminate.

• C2402 – ABS Pump Motor Electrical Fault

As you’ll know, the ABS control unit is made up of a hydraulic block, electronic control module and a pump motor. Confusingly, although the C2402 DTC’s accompanying message mentions the ‘pump motor’, this doesn’t always mean the motor itself is defective.

Put simply, C2402 is stored when the control module detects abnormal behaviour in the pump motor activation circuit.  

Although comprising of various components, an ABS control unit operates harmoniously as one integrated unit. Therefore a defect within one area can disrupt operation in another, which may only then trigger a DTC.

This is often the case with C2402. Each of the aforementioned ABS units are known to suffer component degradation within their control modules. This internal breakdown causes significant disruption to pump motor circuitry, leading the ABS module to store a C2402 DTC.
