You’ll find these control modules wreaking havoc in Mk6 models manufactured between 2003-2006. When failure strikes, communication between the ECU and fuel pump is lost, and related DTCs like P1665 and P1608 will store in your 2.0L/2.4L Ford Transit. As you might expect, this causes symptoms like starting issues, cutting out and rough running. In more extreme cases of failure, you’ll be unable to start the vehicle at all when the DPC-806 is defective.

If you suspect a faulty ECU is the source of your 2.4L Ford Transit’s P1665 code, then send it to us for testing by completing this test form. We’ll let you know conclusively whether your DPC-806 is defective or not, and if it is, we’ll remanufacture it to restore lasting functionality.

Ford Transit (2.0/2.4) P1665 fault explained
As mentioned, a defective DPC-806 ECU is a leading cause of the P1665 DTC in 2.4L Ford Transit vehicles. These units are only fitted to TDDi engines and they frequently fail as a result of internal component degradation. This significantly disrupts the control module’s normal operation and prevents it from carrying out important functions.

As you’ll know, when fully-operational, the engine ECU plays a critical role in fuel delivery by calculating everything from the required fuel quantity to injection timing. In order for sufficient fuel to enter the combustion chamber, the engine ECU must work in tandem with the fuel pump. In the TDDi Mk6 Transit, the vehicle’s fuel pump is also fitted with a control module – this is commonly referred to as an electronic diesel control (EDC) module

The engine ECU sends signals to the EDC module, which in turn, controls the fuel pump to deliver the correct amount of fuel at the correct time to the injectors. When this communication breaks down momentarily or completely because of a defective DPC-806 ECU, the combustion process is disrupted, which leads to one or more of the aforementioned symptoms.

Now, it’s important to understand that both the DPC-806 ECU and the VP44 EDC module are vulnerable to failure, and they cause similar fault symptoms. However, one indication that your Ford Transit’s (2.0L/2.4L) engine ECU has malfunctioned is the presence of these fault codes:

  • P1665 - Injection Pump Control Module Communication
  • P1608 - Fuel Injection Watchdog Signal Lost

If you’ve scanned your vehicle and found a P1664 or P1564 DTC stored, it’s much more likely that your EDC module is defective. Fortunately, we also remanufacture these units and you can find them in our product catalogue

How to resolve DPC-806 ECU failure
Now, when most owners have traced their P1665 fault back to a defective engine ECU in their 2.4L Ford Transit, they choose to replace it with a brand new one. This might seem like a fairly simple solution, however, most don’t realise that brand-new units are often just as vulnerable to failure as your original.

This is why we’d always recommend having your DPC-806 remanufactured in order to resolve the root cause of failure properly.

Remanufacturing is a process that involves strengthening all weak points of the control module’s inner circuitry. This means that not only is the original fault resolved, but other potential areas of weakness are also addressed, ensuring the unit remains fully-functional for the long-term.
