BMW M3 & M5 Throttle Actuator fault

M3 and M5 throttle actuator failure

E90, E92, E93, E60, E63, E64

This throttle actuator is a very common problem for all BMW M5 & M3 vehicles fitted with the S85 & S65 engines. Failure of the throttle actuator will cause the engine to go into ‘limp-mode’ with the DSC and EML light illuminated on the instrument cluster. The common faults codes are: ‘2B15 – Throttle Valve Actuator Bank 1’ & 2B16 – Throttle Valve Actuator Bank 2’. Often the engine may run fine for around 5 minutes or so before these symptoms occur.

This throttle actuator is a common problem due to a design flaw from when the internal gears were first manufactured, causing them to wear prematurely and overload the internal electronics that control the actuator. When we rebuild your own throttle actuator, we replace all internal components with higher rated versions, therefore ensuring that the actuator will not fail again.

Common Failure symptoms:

  • Loss of Power
  • Vehicle going into ‘limp-mode’
  • DSC & EML light on

Common fault codes:

  • 2B15 – Throttle Valve Actuator Governor Monitoring/Control Bank 1
  • 2B16 - Throttle Valve Actuator Governor Monitoring/Control Bank 2
  • 2B21 – Throttle Valve Actuator Pre-drive Check Bank 1
  • 2B22 – Throttle Valve Actuator Pre-driver Check Bank 2
  • 2B25 – Throttle Valve Monitoring Bank 1
  • 2B26 – Throttle Valve Monitoring Bank 2
  • 27A1 – Throttle Valve Actuator Enable Line Bank 1
  • 27A2 – Throttle Valve Actuator Enable Line Bank 2
  • 2B57 – Safety Concept Manager Action
  • CDCD – Throttle Valve Actuator CAN Message

Common failing part numbers:

  • A2C53142839
  • A2C53046176
  • A2C53032056

Test and rebuild:

Each actuator is fully tested using our Hardware In-the-Loop vehicle simulator which will test under real-world conditions. Once the root cause of failure has been identified our highly skilled technicians will replace all common failing components, we only use OEM or above rated components, and unlike the factory environment of the manufactures, our quality control is second to none.

Programming:

This unit is not coded, no need for any recoding once you receive it back, just simply plug and play.
