How do I know my speedometer needs to be repaired?
As you might know, speedometers come in various shapes and sizes. An analogue speedometer is the classic rotary needle design that most people will recognise. Although many modern vehicles have now shifted to a digital speedometer, where the vehicle’s road speed is displayed on an integrated screen.

If you find your analogue speedo is slow to respond to changes in speed, or it remains stuck at a constant reading no matter what you do, this is a key sign that it’s not working properly and should be investigated.

Likewise, if your digital speedometer display is blank or part of the screen appears corrupted, this is a typical sign it’s in need of repair.

In both cases, if your speedometer is displaying information you believe to be incorrect, it’s time to send it off for professional testing.

Don’t worry if you can’t find your vehicle listed on this page. There are hundreds of models that suffer from a speedometer not working, and you’ll no doubt find yours in our product catalogue - if not, feel free to send it in anyway by completing our test form.

Reducing speedometer repair costs
When your speedo isn’t working, it’s important to rule out any external causes of failure. If your instrument cluster isn’t receiving sufficient power from the battery, it can cause one or more of the aforementioned symptoms.

As the modern vehicle’s road speed is determined by four wheel speed sensors, an issue with just one of them can cause the speedo not to work. Therefore we’d always recommend carrying out a full automotive diagnostic scan, as it’ll cost you significantly less to clean or replace a wheel speed sensor than it will to have your speedometer repaired.

If you’ve already ruled out these issues, or don’t have the time or resources to carry out these checks, let us do the hard work for you. Send us your instrument cluster and we’ll test it on state-of-the-art rigs to confirm the fault. This way you’ll know for sure if the speedometer is the source of your problems, so you can save time and reduce unnecessary repair costs.

Speedometer fault: repair or replace?
Having confirmed that their speedometer is not working because of an internal instrument cluster fault, many owners are recommended to simply replace it with new. However, this isn’t the most effective solution.

Many speedometer faults are caused by internal component degradation or design flaws. This means if you swap your defective cluster for a like-for-like replacement, you’re simply reinstalling the same components which’ll no doubt fail again and leave you looking for another speedometer repair before long.

Instead, we recommend having your unit comprehensively rebuilt.

Our solution
We offer a full remanufacturing solution for most types of instrument clusters. Our tried-and-tested solution is proficient in not just rectifying speedometers that don’t work, but also erratic warning lights, a loss of backlighting, corrupted LCDs and more.

A rebuild of your speedometer will not only resolve the root cause of failure, it’ll provide much improved durability. Unlike many speedo repair services, we won’t just switch out a few faulty components, we’ll completely rework the internal circuitry with advanced techniques and top grade components. This way functionality is restored for good, and for much less than the cost of a brand-new unit.

Better still, our process takes just 2-3 working days, you won’t need to recode the unit back to your vehicle and we’ll cover you with an unlimited-mileage lifetime warranty. Get started today by filling out our test form.
