Volkswagen Golf, Caddy, Touran & Transporter Common ECU problem

VW engine ECU fault

Common Bosch EDC16U1 & EDC16U34 ECU Failure.

When the ECU fails you will normally notice that the engine will not start intermittently, you may find that you need to turn the ignition on and off many times before the engine will eventually start. You may also find that the engine will not start at all and the engine management light is no longer illuminating on the instrument cluster.

If you have tried to read the fault codes from the engine system you may also find that you are unable to read any fault codes, or you cannot communicate with the ECU at all.

All these symptoms are a good indication that your engine ECU may be faulty, we are able to rebuild your own unit if you send it to us, or we can supply a replacement unit from stock. If we supply a remanufactured ECU from stock then you will not need to program it on to the vehicle as we complete all the programming before we dispatch the ECU to you so you can just plug it in and drive away.

Test and rebuild:

By testing these VW engine ECUs under real-world load and driving conditions, using our state-of-the-art Hardware In-the-Loop (HIL) testing rig, will enable us to identify all internal faults. Each ECU is rebuild using higher rated than standard components and then extensively re-test the ECU to ensure that no faults remain.

vw caddy Nov/2009 2.0 sdi Fault started with complete engine and dash shut down within a day or so absolutely no response from vehicle ie no lights on dash, no engine turnover. All fuses relays etc have been checked thoroughly, the only things working are hazard lights and central locking. Oh the test port has zero response. Could the engine main ecu cause this overall problem? Thanks in advance.. Robert.
ECU Admin says: 22/01/2020 10:08:57
Hi Robert, reads as though you may have a faulty engine management ECU. Please select your part number from the following list: https://www.ecutesting.com/product-catalogue/volkswagen/caddy/ecu-engine-management/
