BMW Z4 engine ECU is very common for failing. Problems associated with this ECU failing are: power loss, engine hesitation, missing signals to the injectors and intermittent to complete non-start issues. When scanned with diagnostic equipment fault codes may be present for: 30BB - DME injectors 2/3 or DME internal, 30BA - DME injectors 1/4 or DME internal, 29CD - combustion misfire on cylinder 1, 29CE - combustion misfire on cylinder 2, 29CF - combustion misfire on cylinder 3, 29DO - combustion misfire on cylinder 4 and 29CC combustion misfire on several cylinders. On occasions this ECU may even fail to communicate with diagnostic tools, leading to other modules reporting fault codes relating to loss of communications with the engine ECU. When you complete payment the unit will be automatically booked into our workshop and you will receive full step by step instructions for sending the unit to us, you will also be able to track the progress of the unit at every stage simply by logging into your My Account located at the top of our website.

This unit is coded, upon installation it will require resetting and then coding to the vehicle using relevant “dealer level” diagnostic equipment. If you are unable to do this then we may be able to transfer the coding from your old faulty unit, please contact us if you are unsure.
Professional level diagnostic equipment will be required when installing. Clearing of fault codes and professional diagnostic checks should be carried out following installation.

All original programming will be retained, no need to program anything once you receive the unit back. However In exceptional circumstances we may need to replace the software within your unit (if it is corrupt or causing problems) if this is the case then we will inform you of this before rebuilding the unit. Professional level diagnostic equipment will be required when installing, clearing of fault codes and professional diagnostic checks should be carried out following installation.
Exchange Item details (“Buy Now”): Professional level diagnostic equipment and/or specialist knowledge may be required when installing, clearing of fault codes and professional diagnostic checks should be carried out following installation. Please make sure that the part numbers on the original unit match the item you are purchasing. All “Buy Now” items are sold on an exchange basis, you will need to return the old faulty unit along with your returns form once you have fitted the replacement to the vehicle, you have 14 days (10 working days) to return the old faulty unit. Your Lifetime* warranty will be activated upon receipt of the old unit. If the old faulty unit is not returned to us then your warranty will be void (No exceptions). It is your responsibility to cover the cost of posting the old faulty unit back to us.
Rebuild details (“Get Yours Rebuilt”): Professional level diagnostic equipment and/or specialist knowledge may be required when reinstalling, clearing of fault codes and professional diagnostic checks should be carried out following installation. In order to get your unit rebuilt you will need to remove the faulty unit from the vehicle and send it to us, we would then test the unit and if it is faulty we would rebuild it then return it to you with a Lifetime* warranty. When you complete payment the unit will be automatically booked in to our workshop and you will receive full step by step instructions for sending the unit to us, you will also be able to track the progress of the unit at every stage using the “Track Your Part” link located at the top of most pages of our website. If the unit turns out not to be faulty then we would refund your payment and just charge a test fee of £45 + return shipping. Please make sure you check the part numbers on the unit match the rebuild service you are purchasing. Not all parts can be repaired. If the part is not repairable, we will refund your payment and ship it back to you. If you send in an item that does not match the one in the description, we will contact you and try to rebuild it if requested. We recommend the following couriers when sending your unit to be rebuilt: DHL Express.
If I purchase this will it cure my fault?
Other faults on the vehicle may be the cause of your symptoms, even if the vehicles symptoms match those that we have set out on our common fault description. A full professional diagnostic check should be performed and all other possible causes eliminated first.
If a 'Buy Now' replacement unit is purchased due to misdiagnosis then we are unable to grant a full refund if the component is fitted to the vehicle, components fitted to the vehicle will in most cases require re-programming, re-testing & re-manufacturing after they are returned to us, therefore we are only able to grant a 50% refund under these circumstances.
If a ‘Get Yours Rebuilt’ service is purchased due to misdiagnosis then we will charge a testing fee plus return shipping if we test the unit and find that it is not faulty, then the remainder of the payment would be refunded to you.
