This throttle actuator is a very common problem for all BMW M5 & M3 vehicles fitted with the S85 & S65 engines. Failure of the throttle actuator will cause the engine to go into ‘limp-mode’ with the DSC and EML light illuminated on the instrument cluster. The common faults codes are: ‘2B15 – Throttle valve actuator bank 1’ & 2B16 – Throttle valve actuator bank 2’. Often the engine may run fine for around 5 minutes or so before these symptoms occur.
This throttle actuator is a common problem due to a design flaw from when the internal gears were first manufactured, causing them to wear prematurely and overload the internal electronics that control the actuator. When we rebuild your own throttle actuator, we replace all internal components with higher rated versions, therefore ensuring that the actuator will not fail again.
Common failure symptoms:
Loss of Power
Vehicle going into ‘limp-mode’
DSC & EML light on
Common fault codes:
2B15 – Throttle valve actuator governor monitoring/control bank 1
2B16 - Throttle valve actuator governor monitoring/control bank 2
2B21 – Throttle valve actuator pre-drive check bank 1
2B22 – Throttle valve actuator pre-driver check bank 2
2B25 – Throttle valve monitoring bank 1
2B26 – Throttle valve monitoring bank 2
27A1 – Throttle valve actuator enable line bank 1
27A2 – Throttle valve actuator enable line bank 2
2B57 – Safety concept manager action
CDCD – Throttle valve actuator CAN message

Prices and options:
If you would like to have your own unit fully rebuilt, then you have two options regarding payment:
Pay in advance:
This option will allow you to pay for the rebuild in advance of the unit arriving with us, this is the faster option as we will not need to contact you once your unit has been tested, we will just go ahead with the rebuild if it is faulty and then send it straight back to you. To pay in advance for this service please chose your vehicle from the options above.
Pay after testing:
With this option we will contact you for payment after we have received and fully tested your unit. Then we will contact you with the results of the testing and if it is faulty you can then decide if you want us to go ahead with the rebuild or not, it is at this point you would need to pay. This option is a little slower but gives you greater control over whether you want the unit rebuilding or not once it has been tested. If you prefer this option, then please fill in this test form and we will immediately email you with full shipping instructions.
